Nice to hear! Already expecting the youtube vods.

What song do you think he will perform? Maybe “I’m in Love With a Girl” (I’m used to his voice in this song) and from Third “Blue Moon”? “Thank You Friends” might sound nice as well.

I’d lose my mind if he did “Blue Moon”...I mean more so.

Was Matt mentioned on the original announcement?  I don’t remember his name there!

No. I don’t think so. I think they are still announcing guests as they finalize.
**so giddy**

As a guest DJ years ago on Radio K, Matt played “Give Me Another Chance” off Big Star’s #1 Record.  I’ll always recall him saying how he thought of the song as a highlight of their songwriting, sort of a moment of clarity.  If they play earlier songs I’m kind of hoping he gives that one a try.

Whoa! Do you think there’s a recording of that somewhere? I’ve got some Radio K connections…

I have the radio show on tape or maybe even a hard drive somewhere, Jane. I’ll see if I can share it on MP3 or youtube. (just to be clear, he played the recording, not the song live in the studio!).  Hope I get to see you at the show!

OK, here’s a link that hopefully will lead you to a zip file of the mp3s of that radio show.  Matt was sitting in with the regular DJ during a pledge drive I recall.  Things seem a little slow here so this might be a fun listen.  From an AM broadcast back around ‘99 maybe?  Haven’t listened to it for some time, so I can’t really recall how much talking Matt even did.

First Trip Show: Coffman Memorial Union - Octoberish, 1989

We have audio of you so-called lalalalalaloooo-ers.  And just because the audio isn’t of your faces doesn’t mean we can’t identify you. At this very moment that audio is on its way to Washington where the FBI has experts in this type of identification. If you turn yourselves in now, you may escape a Federal charge.

Pillaging Matt since 2010

Henry,

Thanks for those recordings. What a treat, a fun snapshot in time. Matt positively buoyant about Burnt, White, & Blue recently released and being heard by the world. Insights about 12 Rods, Atmosphere/Slug, and loving my favorite Weezer tune. Could that all be 16 years past now? He mentions the “upcoming” Taste of Minnesota gig on the State Capitol grounds, I brought my kids to picnic on the grass for that show, it was really hard rocking and loud for a BW&B era Matt show, 2 dudes in that band had shaved heads that day. And promises of working on a new album. Some things never…

I want to believe Crystal Ball does exist. I mean, there’s gotta be more from where “Follidaze” came from.

Thanks Spike!  It brought back memories here too.  Myself, I would have enjoyed that special “powersurge” show they kept promoting with Dillinger 4, Lifter Puller (pre-Hold Steady) and Plastic Constellations (defunct).  Some of my fav “younger” bands at the time.  Some mentions of clubs now long gone I noticed.  I was at the Taste show too; I recall the sun coming out as they played Sun Is Coming…

I have a few more recordings I did myself from the period including 2 Flops shows, a Semisonic and a very noisy Munson’s Meltaway.  Some of which I know haven’t been circulated yet.  You have me on record here to finally upload them to Dime.  There, I said it!  - John “Henry”

I am home now from a week long vacation and am now FINALLY listening to this!
This is my homie, Danny Sigelman deejaying!
He played drums for The Legendary Jim Ruiz Group back in the mid 90s.
He was a deejay at The Current in the early days of the station and now works at The Dakota.

Deep All the Way Down…holy geezus!!
